Livin' on Tulsa Time

Well its been a little over a year since Artoo was completed to "working droid" status. In that time we've been to Celebration Anaheim, Tulsa Comic Expo, SoonerCon, Weird Al's Mandator Fun tour, The Force Awakens premiere and several other appearances in the Tulsa area.

We'll be making a return appearance to Tulsa Comic Expo this weekend, and hope to see you at a few other conventions this summer. Also, be sure to save us a seat (or two) in December for the premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We may even be returning to Celebration in Orlando next year!

So with all the upcoming events around town, we have decided to rebrand ourselves Tulsa R2-D2. We have a good friend in OKC R2 & R2-D3, and look forward to a couple additions to the Oklahoma Astromech family soon.

With all that comes a cool new logo (as seen above), some trading cards to hand out to fans, and a brand spanking new website: TulsaR2-D2.com - she may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts kid. Check in every so often because the website will continue to expand to include pictures and other info about Tulsa R2-D2.

We'll still update this blogspot as well, we know we are behind on lots of building info and pictures!

So hopefully we'll see you out there, and welcome to some new fans along the way.

It's got cachet up the yin-yang!

The Force has Awakened! Have you felt it? Becasue R2 certainly felt some love last Thursday evening. The local fan group Tulsa Star Force assembled a small portion of our Death Star set at the Broken Arrow Warren Theater. We had around 30 costumed characters milling about before the first showings of Episode VII. We were on the local NBC news and made the Tulsa World.

The movie was great! A definite return to form for Star Wars. Here's hoping R2 is a little more prominent in Episode VIII. Guess we have about 17 months to wait and see.

The new JAG 4WD's performed great on the carpet. I also upgraded my cheap Pyle speakers to some better quality JBLs. The sound level was a definite improvement. I never had a hard time hearing him, even at a distance and with the volume turned down a bit.

I'll try and write up a little more detail on all the upgrades in a separate post.

Williams Show-noma

Made a short appearance at a Star Wars themed cyber security meeting for Williams company today. Short and sweet, didn't grab any pics so stealing this one from Chris Gray of Tulsa Star Force.

Upgrade able

Time for a few upgrades. R2 has been to several events since Celebration last April. I was lucky enough to score one of the last JAG 4WD kits, and have started assembling them today. I also bought a new center caster specifically designed for R2. I'm hoping he gets around a lot better after the switch out of the entire drive component.

Next month I plan on installing all my dome upgrades. This includes completely different lights, magic panel and hinged panels. I'm only waiting on the periscope lifter at the moment. Here's to having an improved R2 in time for The Force Awakens.

The SoonerCon, the better

A few pics from the first annual SoonerCon. Met a few unruly kids, including a rude little Dr. Who. But the mini Kylo Ren stole the show.

Friday of Force for Fun

Here's some pics of R2 at one of the local Toys R Us from Force Fruday midnight opening. Unfortunately is was not the best experience. I'm not a huge TRU shopper, and their handling of our fan group makes me less likely to return to the establishment. I ended up picking up a few small things at Target later that night instead.

Stand Up Comic

There was an Oklahoma droid reunion last Saturday at the Tulsa Comic Expo. Hopefully we will be able to this quite a bit now. 

This was my first con event since Celebration. May have caught the bug. R2 also got a few selfies with some famous vehicles while we were there.
